UND & Grand Sky Meetings with General Wilsbach
GRAND FORKS, N.D – Next week, Senator John Hoeven will host General Kenneth Wilsbach, Commander of the Air Combat Command (ACC), in Grand Forks to discuss current and future Air Force operations in the Red River Valley. As a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, Hoeven invited Wilsbach to visit North Dakota during a meeting earlier this year, as the general was preparing to take command of the ACC. Hoeven also spoke with Wilsbach again this week to preview the visit and again stress the importance of:
- Secure future intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions for the Grand Forks Air Force Base (GFAFB).
- Leverage North Dakota’s expertise in unmanned aviation to strengthen U.S. counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) capabilities.
On Monday, June 17, Hoeven will meet with Wilsbach, GFAFB base leadership and community leaders. The next morning, Hoeven and Wilsbach will hold a counter-UAS discussion with leaders from the University of North Dakota (UND), where Hoeven will outline opportunities to further partner the institution’s world-class aviation school with the Air Force. Later that morning, Hoeven and Wilsbach will hold a roundtable at Grand Sky on maximizing the value of county’s Enhanced Use Lease with GFAFB for priorities such as counter-UAS, hypersonic missile testing and space missions.
