That afternoon, Hoeven will hold a roundtable in Fargo to outline his efforts to improve veterans’ access to health care services. Gene Migliaccio Dr. P.H., Deputy Chief Business Officer for Purchased Care, of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Veterans Health Administration, and Matthew Ruest, Vice President of Government Services Field Operations for Health Net, will also be in attendance. Hoeven has been pushing the VA to send a representative to Fargo to see firsthand the issues that veterans face when scheduling non-VA care appointments.

Hoeven has been working with the Fargo VA to try and resolve scheduling and service issues arising from the use of a third party administrator, Health Net. The senator pressed the VA to set up a pilot program, similar to what is being done in Alaska, which would allow the Fargo VA to directly schedule appointments under the Veterans Choice Program as opposed to relying on a third party administrator.
