BNI Coal Tour & Project Tundra Discussion

CENTER, N.D. – On Wednesday, August 23, Senator John Hoeven will meet with BNI General Manager Mike Heger and Minnkota Power Cooperative CEO Mac McLennan and tour the Center Mine’s Section 20 drag line. The group will discuss recent advancements to Project Tundra, a major carbon capture and storage project on a traditional coal-fired power plant, and Hoeven’s efforts to secure approved federal mine plans to support the mine’s continued operations, as well as that of the Milton R. Young Station. Without approval, BNI and Minnkota would have incurred nearly $35 million in costs to make and implement contingency plans to move the drag line and develop other portions of the mine, resulting in higher electricity prices across the region.
