Hoeven Statement on Today's Passage of a Continuing Resolution to Fund the Government

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to Congress passing a continuing resolution to fund the U.S. government beyond the end of the federal fiscal year on September 30:

“Today, I voted for a measure that will fund the government, and that adheres to the budget cap in the Budget Control Act. It holds spending to 2014 levels and is consistent with our ongoing efforts to control the deficit and debt.

“This bill also includes authorization requested by the president to train and equip appropriately vetted Syrian troops on the ground to fight ISIL. Importantly, the measure also includes oversight and accountability provisions in order to keep Congress informed on the progress of the effort. This authorization only extends to December 11, so that Congress can further evaluate the administration’s efforts to build both a viable strategy and a coalition of allies at that time.”
