Hoeven Statement on Nomination of Patrick Shanahan to be Secretary of Defense
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement after the president nominated Patrick Shanahan to serve as U.S. Secretary of Defense.
“We are pleased the president has nominated Patrick Shanahan, as we’ve worked closely with him in his current role as Acting Defense Secretary to help ensure the security of our nation and strengthen North Dakota’s missions,” Hoeven said. “He just testified before our Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, where we secured his commitment to advance the modernization of our nuclear forces, expand our leadership in unmanned aviation and provide the tools and facilities our men and women in the armed forces need to continue succeeding in their vital work. I look forward to again reviewing these priorities with Mr. Shanahan as he moves through the nomination process.”
