Hoeven Statement After Judiciary Committee Approves Nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of U.S. Circuit Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States, and advanced the nomination to the full Senate. Hoeven met with Judge Barrett earlier this month to discuss her judicial philosophy and this week spoke on the Senate floor in support of her nomination.

“Judge Barrett has a strong record on the bench and has demonstrated her deep understanding of the law as a professor at Notre Dame Law School. Her judicial approach ensures she will be fair and impartial while upholding our most vital document, the Constitution. Judge Barrett has shown a strong commitment to upholding the law rather than legislating from the bench, which I believe is the right judicial philosophy for North Dakota and our nation, and I look forward to supporting her confirmation to the Supreme Court.”
