Hoeven: Grand Forks Recognized as Great American Defense Community
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the Association of Defense Communities has recognized the City of Grand Forks as a Great American Defense Community. Earlier this month, Hoeven wrote a letter to the Association of Defense Communities (ADC) outlining the city’s support and enthusiasm for Grand Forks Air Force Base (GFAFB) and the development of Grand Sky technology park, urging them to consider Grand Forks for this special honor.
“The Grand Forks community actively seeks ways that the base and the civilian community can share services and amenities in the region, enhancing the local economy while improving the lives of airmen and their families,” Hoeven said. “Grand Forks also continues to provide the best traditional support possible for military families, ranging from special events for military families, tickets for sporting events, holiday programs, and military appreciation days. Grand Forks embraces the mission, the airmen, and the families of GFAFB and they are re-writing the book on community relations with military installations. It is only fitting that they are recognized as a Great American Defense Community.”
The Great American Defense Communities program recognizes cities, counties or regions that are committed to supporting and honoring service members and their families. Each year, ADC will recognize up to 10 communities that have improved military family quality of life.
