Hoeven Congratulates Sweetwater Elementary School on Second National Blue Ribbon Award
Three North Dakota Schools Received 2020 Blue Ribbon School Awards for Excellence in Academic Achievement
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today joined a virtual celebration to congratulate students and staff at Sweetwater Elementary School in Devils Lake on being designated as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School, receiving their second National Blue Ribbon Award. The school first received the award in 2014, with Hoeven joining the community’s celebration that year as well.
During the ceremony, Hoeven honored the students and teachers for receiving their second Blue Ribbon School Award and exceeding the high standards necessary to receive such honors. The senator also highlighted support from the families, as well as the Devils Lake community as a whole. Sweetwater Elementary School has been recognized for academic excellence as an Exemplary High Performing School.
“This distinction is only awarded to the best schools in the nation, and we are proud to congratulate the school, and community, on receiving this incredible honor,” said Hoeven. “For Sweetwater Elementary to receive this honor twice is a true testament to the hard work of the principal, faculty, teachers and students in fostering an environment that is dedicated to academic excellence.”
Also receiving this recognition this year is Memorial Middle School at Minot Air Force Base and Nathan Twining Middle School at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. The National Blue Ribbon Program has served to recognize the efforts of the nation’s top schools. Now in its 38th year, more than 9,000 schools have received this award.
