Hoeven Works to Provide Housing, Law Enforcement Support for Growing ND Communities
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the committee has passed legislation that includes important provisions to help growing communities in Western North Dakota. The Fiscal Year 2015 appropriations bills include strong support for low-income housing assistance programs and provisions to ensure adequate law enforcement in the Bakken region.
“We need to do all we can to ensure that growing communities across North Dakota, and especially in western North Dakota, have the support they need to maintain the high quality of life we expect,” said Hoeven, “We’re working to ensure that we have affordable, quality housing for our families and that our law enforcement officials have the resources they need to keep our communities safe.”
The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) legislation includes provisions, including rental assistance programs, to help provide low-income individuals and families with access to safe and affordable housing opportunities in local communities.
Additionally, the Commerce, Justice and Science bill directs the Department of Justice (DOJ) to develop a plan to support law enforcement in the Bakken. DOJ must take steps to help ensure that law enforcement is adequate in the region and that resources are allocated properly.
The legislation will next be considered by the full Senate.
