Hoeven Votes to Block Biden Administration’s Residential Gas Furnace Rule
Senator Cosponsored CRA to Ensure Consumers Can Access Conventional, More Affordable Natural Gas Furnaces
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) Committee, today voted for a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the U.S. Department of Energy’s final rule on gas furnace efficiency standards. Hoeven introduced the CRA with Senator Ted Cruz to block the Biden administration’s rule, which forces manufacturers to sell only furnaces that convert at least 95% of fuel into heat. The Biden rule effectively bans all non-condensing furnace models, forcing a majority of American households to adopt electric heat pumps or pay thousands of dollars to renovate their homes to meet the requirements of new residential gas furnaces.
“We introduced and passed this CRA to stop the Biden administration’s de facto ban on the sale of conventional, affordable natural gas furnaces,” said Hoeven. “Instead of siding with American consumers and allowing them to continue to have the option to use these furnaces, the Biden administration continues to push their costly Green New Deal agenda on the American people.”
