Hoeven Supports Disaster Relief Legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after supporting disaster relief legislation covering events in 2018 and 2019. As chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee, Hoeven worked to ensure that the legislation provided assistance to farmers and others impacted by disasters in North Dakota and across the Midwest:
The legislation included $3 billion in Farm Disaster Assistance for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of the Secretary (OSEC) to cover crop losses stemming from 2018 and 2019 natural disasters. The funding will be administered through OSEC’s Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program (WHIP).
“We worked hard to ensure this legislation addressed impacts to farmers as well as those who faced flood disasters along the Missouri River and elsewhere,” said Hoeven. “Considering the struggles our agriculture producers currently face, we appreciate our colleagues in the Senate for joining us in a bipartisan effort to provide this much-needed disaster assistance.”
