Hoeven Statement on Vote to Defend Religious Freedom
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today released the following statement after a vote in the U.S. Senate to reject legislation aimed at overturning the Supreme Court’s recent decision on the Hobby Lobby case. That decision found the Obamacare mandate on certain contraceptives violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and infringes on Americans’ religious freedoms.
“I support the Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case as it upholds religious freedom, one of our most fundamental constitutional rights as Americans. The Supreme Court ruling does not prevent an individual from purchasing the contraceptive of their choice. I voted against this legislation, as it was an attempt to overturn that decision and restrict religious freedom.”
