Hoeven Statement on Vote Opposing Secretary of State Nominee
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after opposing the nomination of Antony Blinken to be Secretary of State.
“I opposed Antony Blinken’s nomination due to his previous record under the Obama administration, including his role in helping craft the Iran nuclear deal, which emboldened Iranian efforts to sponsor terrorism and lacked the accountability needed to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Further, Secretary Blinken supports an extension of the New START Treaty, which places limits on our forces, including the ICBMs and bombers in Minot, without fully accounting for a wide range of new nuclear weapons developed by our adversaries. Given the challenges facing our nation around the globe, I believe this is the wrong approach and instead we need to continue to work with our allies and show strength.”
