Hoeven Statement on the President's Address on Syria
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s address to the nation on Syria:
“In his address to the nation last night, President Obama conveyed a mixed message regarding his plan to seek a diplomatic solution to Syria’s use of chemical weapons. The president needs to develop a clear and coherent plan of action and convey that plan to Congress, the American people and our allies.
“At this point, I remain opposed to a military strike on Syria and any plan that would involve U.S. troops on the ground. North Dakotans, many of whom I spoke with personally in recent weeks, clearly are not behind such an action. I believe we should work with our allies in the region and other countries on a diplomatic solution to Syria’s use of chemical weapons, and any response should not involve U.S. troops on the ground.”
