Hoeven Statement on the Deaths of North Dakota National Guardsmen Linde and Orgaard, and the Wounding of Guardsman Placek in Afghanistan
BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven and his wife Mikey extended their condolences today to the family and friends of North Dakota National Guardsmen Sgt. 1st Class Darren Michael Linde of Devils Lake and Spc. Tyler John Orgaard of Bismarck, who were killed in action on Monday, Dec. 3, while serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Spc. Ian Placek of Bismarck was wounded in the incident. The senator and Mrs. Hoeven issued the following statement:
“Today Mikey and I join North Dakotans and Americans everywhere in extending our sympathy to the families of Sgt. 1st Class Darren Linde and Spc. Tyler Orgaard, who made the ultimate sacrifice Monday while serving in Afghanistan. We also extend our thoughts and prayers to Spc. Ian Placek, who was injured while serving alongside Sgt. 1st Class Linde and Spc. Orgaard.
“We know that these brave North Dakotans served selflessly in a unit with a very dangerous mission, helping to make the way safe for others. They represent the very best of our state and our nation, and we are deeply grateful for their service.
“We will continue to pray for Spc. Placek, his family and his doctors as he recovers from his injuries. The families, friends and communities of these brave men have also made a great sacrifice, and we pledge never to forget them or their loved one.”
