Hoeven Statement on Texas Judge’s Obamacare Ruling
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement regarding a ruling on Obamacare by a federal judge in Texas:
“As part of tax relief legislation, Congress removed the Obamacare individual mandate penalty. The Texas Court ruled that without the individual mandate, the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional. This is the first step in what will be a lengthy legal process that could go all the way to the Supreme Court. As such, the law is not changed until the Supreme Court rules.
“Costs have more than doubled under Obamacare, with families facing increased premiums and higher deductibles, as well as limited health insurance options in many regions of the country, including North Dakota. We need to replace Obamacare with patient-centered health care that provides greater choice and competition to lower costs. At the same time, we need to maintain coverage for those with pre-existing conditions.”
