Hoeven Statement on President's Joint Address to Congress

WASHINGTON -- Senator John Hoeven today released the following statement after the president’s joint address to Congress:

“In his first address to the Congress, the President outlined his commitment to growing our economy and keeping our nation safe. We appreciate the president’s focus on the fundamentals including rolling back the regulatory burden on our job creators and reforming the tax code to get our economy going and growing.

“Economic growth will enable us to reduce our debt and deficit while also investing in the priorities the president outlined, including supporting our military, caring for our veterans, building our infrastructure and making our communities safer by supporting our law enforcement and improving border security.

“These things are important, but as the chairman of the Agriculture Appropriations Committee, one of my highest priorities in the budget process will also be ensuring we support our farmers and ranchers through these challenging times in the agriculture patch. Therefore, I will look carefully at the budget proposal to make sure that agriculture is properly supported, along with other priorities.”
