Hoeven Statement on President's Decision on Iran Deal
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after the President announced his decision to decertify the nuclear deal and reimpose sanctions on Iran.
“The Iran agreement was insufficient and has not curbed Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which is why I opposed it. It did not provide for verification to ensure compliance, weakened sanctions, and would still allow Iran to build a nuclear weapon after 2025. Iran should not possess a nuclear weapon and we must do more to deter them, including full inspections at Iran’s military and nuclear-related facilities and curbs on Iran’s ballistic missile program, as well as strong sanctions for Iran’s sponsorship of terrorism. I look forward to taking these steps to enhance the security of the United States and Israel and our other allies as well as partners in the region.”
