HOEVEN STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S BUDGET

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s budget, which was released this morning:

“The budget President Obama released today doesn’t go far enough to address our nation’s deficit and debt. Since President Obama has been in office, he’s raised spending by 24 percent, and that doesn’t include nearly a trillion dollars in stimulus spending. Now he wants to hold it at that level for five years, which will continue to increase the deficit. Further, he is proposing to raise taxes, which will hurt our ability to create jobs and grow the economy.

“The right approach is two-fold: First, we need to come together in a bipartisan way to find savings and reduce overall spending, and second, we need to create a pro-growth approach to our economic policy, which means building the kind of legal, tax and regulatory climate that will encourage American business to grow and create jobs.”
