Hoeven Statement on North Korea
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement on North Korea:
“North Korea has indicated that it is now willing to engage in talks regarding its nuclear arms program as a result of strong economic sanctions put in place by the United States, along with our efforts to get China to sanction North Korea as well. These steps are putting pressure on the regime and have forced North Korea to the negotiating table. We need to be mindful, however, that in the past North Korea has used negotiating tactics to get concessions. We need to keep the sanctions in place and the pressure on until North Korea actually gives up its development of nuclear missiles.”
