Hoeven Statement on ITC Ruling that American Sugar Producers Were Harmed By Mexico
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee, released the following statement after the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled 6-0 that Mexico’s sugar industry harmed American producers by dumping subsidized sugar onto the U.S. market. The ruling will keep in place an accord signed by the U.S. and Mexican governments to establish a needs-based trading structure for at least five years.
“Today’s ruling confirms that Mexico has harmed our sugar producers here in the United States, including producers in the Red River Valley, through unfair trade practices. This ruling will help to level the playing field for U.S. sugar and is an important step toward enforcing our trade agreements.”
