Hoeven Statement Honoring Veterans Day

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day. Since he was elected as Governor, Hoeven has normally spent Veterans Day with North Dakota veterans; however, he was unable to attend events in North Dakota today as the Senate is in session this week. To pay tribute to our veterans, Hoeven visited the war memorials on the National Mall.

“Our nation would not be free without the selfless sacrifice of our veterans, and today, our nation honors the bravery of the men and women in uniform who have fought to preserve our way of life,” said Hoeven. “We are grateful for our servicemembers in North Dakota and across this nation, as well as their families, who serve right alongside them. I remain committed to ensuring veterans receive the recognition, benefits and care they have earned as we are thankful not only on Veterans Day, but every day, for the countless sacrifices they have made.”

As a member of the Senate Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Committee, Hoeven has worked to ensure that our veterans receive the care and services they have earned. That includes:

  • Strengthening the VA’s ability to provide care for veterans and give veterans more options to seek care in their home communities.
  • Enabling more long-term care (LTC) providers to accept veteran patients.
  • Securing an expansion of the VA’s hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) clinical demonstration program to include the Fargo VA, the fifth such location in the nation, making this alternative treatment for PTSD available to veterans who have not experienced positive outcomes from traditional treatments.
