Hoeven Statement After Vote to End COVID-19 National Emergency Declaration
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven this week voted for a resolution to terminate the COVID-19 national emergency declaration, and help limit the Biden administration’s overreaching policies. Emergency declarations provide expanded authority for the president to address crises other than war or natural disaster, and would typically expire after one year, but may be renewed or terminated by the president or a joint resolution of Congress.
“Despite declaring that the pandemic is over, the President has kept the COVID emergency declaration in place to expand his authority,” said Hoeven. “I voted for this resolution to terminate the COVID-19 emergency declaration to check the Biden administration and put a stop to their overreaching policies.”
