Hoeven Statement After Senate Vote on Supreme Court Nominee
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven released the following statement today regarding the Senate confirmation vote for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who has been nominated to serve as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States.
“After meeting with Judge Jackson and reviewing her record, I opposed her lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court as I am concerned by her record and believe she will try to legislate from the bench rather than strictly uphold the Constitution and law as written.”
Hoeven met with Judge Jackson earlier this week as part of the confirmation process. Following the meeting, the Senator issued a statement outlining his concerns that she will engage in judicial activism as well as with her record of issuing sentences below sentencing guidelines and her treatment of terrorists at Guantanamo Bay as criminals rather than prisoners of war.
