Hoeven: Standing Rock, Devils Lake Receive Nearly $540,000 to Support Education for Indian Children
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded two grants totaling nearly $540,000 to Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Devils Lake Public School District. The funds are made available through the Demonstration Grants for Indian Children Program. The details of the awards include:
- Standing Rock Sioux Tribe - $304,406, the first award in an anticipated 3-year grant
- Devils Lake Public School District - $232,986, the first award in an anticipated 4-year grant
“These awards provide an opportunity for local schools to develop and test new methods to improve educational opportunities for Native American students, from preschool through high school,” Hoeven said.
