Hoeven: Senate Confirms Pompeo as Secretary of State

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven released the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Mike Pompeo as U.S. Secretary of State. Prior to his confirmation, Pompeo served as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency and had previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“With our nation facing threats around the globe, we need to have a strong, qualified individual at the helm of the State Department. Mike Pompeo has the experience necessary to lead our diplomatic missions and represent our nation’s interests abroad. He graduated at the top of his class at West Point, was a captain in the U.S. Army, served in Congress and most recently led the Central Intelligence Agency. He has the background and the experience necessary to serve as our nation’s top diplomat and to help ensure the safety of Americans at home and abroad.”
