Hoeven Receives North Dakota Parent Teacher Association's 'Friend of the Child' Award
FARGO, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today received the North Dakota Parent Teacher Association’s (PTA) ‘Friend of the Child’ award for his support of child-related legislation. The annual award was created in 1992 to honor individuals who have ‘given exemplary service to children and youth.’
“Our children are our future, and during my time in the senate, as well as my time as governor, I have worked hard to ensure that our next generation is equipped with the tools they need to have rewarding lives and careers,” Hoeven said. “This award is a great honor, and I look forward to continuing my efforts to make sure that children are safe, healthy, and have access to a good education.”
Hoeven, as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has backed key education funding programs such as Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title 1 grants, Impact Aid and Rural and Special Education programs. Hoeven also authored the Native American Children’s Safety Act, legislation that puts protections in place for Native American children who have been placed into the tribal foster care system.
