Hoeven, Pfluger Introduce CRA Resolution to Block Natural Gas Tax, Reduce Energy Costs & Boost U.S. Energy Production
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Congressman August Pfluger (R-Texas) today introduced a bicameral Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval to block implementation of the Biden administration’s Natural Gas Tax, which was passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spend legislation in 2022.
“American households and businesses depend every day on access to affordable and reliable energy,” said Senator Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. “The best way to bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply. That’s why we’re working to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax, among the many other costly and burdensome taxes and regulations imposed under the Biden administration. Doing so will help unleash our domestic energy production and make our nation energy dominant once again.”
“President Biden’s promise to end fossil fuels hurt the hardworking energy producers of my district who have worked diligently to increase production while fueling our allies abroad,” said Rep. Pfluger. “If implemented, the ill-conceived natural gas tax will handicap technological innovation, reduce supplies of affordable energy, and increase both costs and emissions. I am proud to lead this CRA to rescind implementation of the natural gas tax.”
This legislation comes as part of Hoeven’s broader efforts to rescind the wide array of costly taxes and regulations imposed by President Biden, which have resulted in increased costs for consumers and hampered domestic U.S. energy production. Moving forward, Hoeven and his colleagues will work in the new Congress and under the Trump administration to repeal burdensome federal rules in order to:
- Improve access to taxpayer-owned energy resources.
- Streamline the approval process for energy development and the construction of infrastructure needed to get energy to market.
- Reduce the cost of production, fight inflation and bring down prices for American consumers.
The Hoeven-Pfluger bill is cosponsored by Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), James Risch (R-Idaho) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) in the U.S. Senate and Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) in the House of Representatives.
