Hoeven, Klobuchar Wage Bison, Hotdish on Saturday's Game

Bipartisan work on Red River flooding solutions leads to friendly wager

WASHINGTON – Senators John Hoeven and Amy Klobuchar today announced that they have agreed to a friendly wager on the outcome of Saturday’s football game between the North Dakota State University Bison and the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

If the Bison win, Klobuchar will provide Hoeven with her ‘award-winning’ Taconite Tater Tot Hotdish. If the Gophers win the game held in Minneapolis, Hoeven will send a gift of North Dakota-raised bison steaks to Klobuchar.

Hoeven and Klobuchar have been working together to address flooding in the Red River Valley, which shares the border between North Dakota and Minnesota.

“A gopher may be smaller than a bison, but our Golden Gophers are mighty and I know they’ll come out on top this Saturday,” Klobuchar said. “When Senator Hoeven offered me bison, I thought of countering with a cute little gopher, but he told me that they shoot them in North Dakota… so I decided to wager my ‘award-winning’ Taconite Tater Tot Hotdish instead.”

“I wasn’t really looking forward to gopher morsels, so Senator Klobuchar’s famous hotdish was a welcome alternative,” Hoeven said. “It’s a good wager between good neighbors. This game between our universities is always fun and Mikey and I are looking forward to attending the game –Go Bison!”
