WASHINGTON – At a meeting of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) Committee today, Senator John Hoeven helped secure bipartisan committee approval of the following two nominations that are key to implementing a pro-growth energy policy for the nation:

  • Governor Doug Burgum to serve as Secretary of the Interior and head of the National Energy Council.
  • Chris Wright to serve as the Secretary of Energy.

Today’s votes are an important milestone in Hoeven’s efforts to advance Burgum and Wright’s confirmations, with the senator having recently made the case to his fellow committee members for the nominees. Burgum and Wright received broad bipartisan support, with the committee approving their nominations by votes of 18-2 and 15-5, respectively. The nominations now go to the full Senate for consideration, and Hoeven is working to secure a floor vote for both Burgum and Wright in the next week to 10 days.

“In order to implement an energy policy that will actually serve the interests of our nation and bring down prices for American consumers, President Trump needs to have his team in place. Doug Burgum and Chris Wright are central to these efforts, and by securing committee approval, we have brought them all the closer to fulfilling their essential leadership roles at the departments of Interior and Energy, as well as the National Energy Council,” said Hoeven. “At the same time, we will continue our efforts in the Senate to advance the policies needed to unleash the full potential of our country’s abundant energy resources, including the vast taxpayer-owned oil, gas and coal reserves on federal lands.”
