Hoeven Helping Introduce Legislation to Immediately Freeze $6 Billion Payment to Iran
BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, today announced he is helping introduce legislation to block Iran from accessing the $6 billion in funds that the Biden administration agreed to release. The legislation, which is being led by Senator Tom Cotton and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, will immediately freeze the funds. The senators are seeking to pass the bill by unanimous consent.
“The horrific events of last weekend make it clear that Iran must be held accountable for their sponsorship of Hamas and other terrorist organizations,” said Hoeven. “The administration never should allowed Iran access to this $6 billion, and these funds should be frozen immediately. We need to do all we can to stop Iran’s efforts to fund terror and spread violence.”
Text of the bill may be found here.
