Hoeven: Fill the Dome Campaign Shows Leadership of Fargo-Area Youth, Generosity of Local Community
FARGO, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today commended Fargo-area youth for their hard work and dedication to Fill the Dome, a youth-led initiative to collect enough food donations to cover the entire floor of the Fargodome. Hoeven joined local leaders and student organizers at a news conference this morning to highlight the campaign and the results of the fifth-annual food drive.
“For the past five years, local students have led this effort to stock the shelves of our state’s food pantries and provide hundreds of thousands of meals to those in need,” said Hoeven. “It’s wonderful to see the floor of the Fargodome covered in boxes and cans of food, but it’s more impressive to realize that all of these donations are here because of the dedication of our youth and the generosity of this community.”
Since 2007, the Fill the Dome event has raised 300 tons of food and more than $250,000. In 2010, the event collected enough cash and food donations to provide 450,000 meals. This year, student organizers set a goal of collecting enough contributions to provide 500,000 meals.
