Hoeven Discusses Terminal Expansion Project at Hector International, Record Boardings

Senator Working through Senate THUD Appropriations Committee to Secure Needed Federal Support

FARGO, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven today met with the Fargo Municipal Airport Authority to review plans for Hector International Airport’s Terminal Expansion Project. The estimated $155 million project:

  • Consists of terminal modifications, apron expansions, an elevated walkway and a parking garage.
  • Will be seeking nearly $81 million in federal support.
    • Through his role on the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Committee, Hoeven will work to help the airport secure the needed federal support.
  • Will begin in spring 2024, with an estimated completion date of fall 2026.
  • Is needed due to significantly increased activity at the Hector International Airport.
    • In 2023, Hector International expects enplanements to exceed 500,000 passengers, topping the 2019 record of just over 471,000 enplanements.
    • In August 2023, Hector International Airport achieved a new monthly passenger record with almost 44,000 passenger enplanements.

“The Fargo-Moorhead region is rapidly growing, both in terms of population and in economic activity,” said Hoeven. “That means greater demand for air service and the need for updates and added facilities at Hector International. We appreciate the airport authority for advancing this expansion plan to ensure safe and efficient travel for the region’s residents, and we will work wherever possible to secure the needed federal support and help the developers meet their timelines.”

Today’s meeting complements Hoeven’s long-term efforts to support expansions at the state’s airports to accommodate population and economic growth, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of people and goods. In recent years, the senator worked to advance similar efforts that were successfully completed, including at airports in Williston and Minot, and he continues supporting the Terminal Development Project in Dickinson.
