Hoeven: Corps Agrees to Provide $7.4 Million for Fargo-Moorhead Diversion Project from 2013 CR
WASHINGTON – Subsequent to Senator John Hoeven’s meeting this week with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director nominee Sylvia Burwell and Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District Commander Col. Michael Price, OMB today informed the North Dakota delegation that the Corps will make $7.4 million available for project engineering and design for the Fargo-Moorhead diversion project.
“I impressed on nominee Sylvia Burwell earlier this week and Col. Price yesterday in no uncertain terms that the Administration needs to support funding for permanent flood protection in the Red River Valley,” Hoeven said. “Through the Appropriations Committee, we provided funding for the Corps, which they can use for the diversion.”
As a result of the continuing resolution Congress passed in January to fund government for the balance of 2013, the Corps should be able to make the funding available this summer, pending final approval from OMB.
Senator Hoeven also stressed the importance of including construction funding for the project in the Administration’s budget, and said he will continue to work through the Senate Appropriations Committee to secure it.
