Hoeven Congratulates NDSU Men's Basketball Team After They Take Home Summit League Tournament Title and Secure NCAA Tournament Bid

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement congratulating the North Dakota State University men’s basketball team after they took home the Summit League Tournament title and a bid to the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. The Bison scored a 57-56 win against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

“This season, the Bison faced many obstacles: they lost six key seniors from last year’s team, practiced in an off-campus converted warehouse and even lifted weights in a grocery store for strength training. Despite these challenges, the players went into overdrive last night, taking home the Summit League Tournament title and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. The Jackrabbits played a great game, but with two seconds left in the game the Bison got possession of the ball and secured their victory.

“Congratulations to NDSU coach David Richman, Athletics Director Matt Larson and the entire Bison team for their outstanding performance. We look forward to cheering on the Bison as they head to the Big Dance later this month and know they will represent our state well in the tournament.”

NDSU senior guard Lawrence Alexander was named tournament MVP and Summit League Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, and first-year head coach David Richman took home the league’s Coach of the Year award.
