Hoeven Congratulates Minot Air Force Base's 5th Bomb Wing on Receiving Strategic Bomber Omaha Trophy
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today congratulated the 5th Bomb Wing stationed at Minot Air Force Base for being recognized as the best strategic bombing wing in U.S. Strategic Command (StratCom) and winning the 2016 Omaha Trophy. Created in 1971, the Omaha Trophy is awarded to StratCom’s best performing wings in five different categories: Ballistic Missile Submarine, Global Operations, ICBM, Strategic Aircraft and Strategic Bomber.
“As part of the nuclear triad, the 5th Bomb Wing plays a critical role in keeping our nation safe,” Hoeven said. “This Omaha Trophy is a testament to the excellent work done by the men and women of the 5th Bomb Wing. We need to do our part in supporting them by ensuring they have the tools they need to continue to execute their mission at the highest level, which is why we are working to modernize and upgrade the B-52 and the weapons it carries.”
The 5th Bomb Wing also won the Omaha Trophy in 2014. The 5th Bomb Wing is Minot Air Force Base’s host wing and operates the B-52-H Stratofortress.
