Hoeven Congratulates Bison on NCAA Division 1 FCS Championship Win
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today congratulated the North Dakota State University Bison and coach Craig Bohl on the team’s 17 to 6 win over the Sam Houston State Bearkats in the NCAA division 1 FCS championship in Dallas this afternoon. NDSU had a record of 13-1 going into the game. This is the first FCS title game win for the Bison, who moved up to Division I in 2004. Senator Hoeven attended the game today in Frisco, Texas. Representative Rick Berg also attended.
“Today, every North Dakotan feels a deep sense of pride for the Bison and for North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “A smart offense and strong defense made a big difference this afternoon, but it was the tremendous dedication and focus of the players and coaches all year that carried the day. The team played great ball all season, and now they’ve capped their performance with the national championship title. Go Bison!”
Senator Hoeven and Senator Kent Conrad made a friendly wager on the game with Texas Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn. Senators Hutchison and Cornyn bet a half dozen world-famous Taste of Texas Pecan Pies and tubs of Texas' legendary Blue Bell Ice Cream. Senators Hoeven and Conrad wagered a case of TenderBison Steaks from the North American Bison Cooperative in New Rockford, North Dakota.
