Hoeven Announces Nearly $40 Million in Loans for Rural Electric Infrastructure
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded the Nodak Electric Cooperative more than $29.7 million in loans to build and improve 247 miles of power lines, including investments in smart grid technologies, to serve the Grand Forks area and 13 surrounding counties. USDA also awarded Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative $10 million in loans to build and improve 84 miles of power line to serve six counties in the northwestern part of the state.
“Today’s investments provide the opportunity to update critical infrastructure that supports our economy and quality of life, while also improving the grid’s efficiency through new technology,” said Hoeven.
