Hoeven Announces More than $840,000 in Federal Funding to Support Volunteer Work, Reading Corps in North Dakota
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has awarded a total of $842,990 to the North Dakota State Commission on National and Community Service and the West Fargo Public School District. The funds are made available through CNCS’ AmeriCorps State and National Grant program, which works to support a range of local service programs that engage thousands of Americans in community service each year. The funds are awarded as follows:
• North Dakota State Commission on National and Community Service – $653,841 – To support volunteer needs in North Dakota
• West Fargo Public School District – $189,149 – To support the school district’s North Dakota Reading Corps, an initiative that aims to help every child become a successful reader by the end of third grade
“North Dakota has a population of hardworking and thoughtful citizens, and today’s funding will go towards helping to ensure that volunteers have the resources they need to make a positive difference in our state’s communities,” Hoeven said. “Today’s grants will also support efforts aimed at helping children become successful readers, which will help them become our next generation of leaders.”
As a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Hoeven is working to secure funds that empower North Dakota communities to improve educational and economic opportunity for their residents.
