Hoeven Announces more than $36 Million in Airport Funding for Williston, Bismarck, Dickinson

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is awarding three grants totaling more than $36 million to support airports in North Dakota. Today’s funding is made available through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which Hoeven helped maintain in the Senate’s Fiscal Year 2018 funding bill, and is distributed as follows:

  • Williston Basin International Airport - $19.3 million for the construction of the new airport. 
  • Bismarck Municipal Airport - $16.3 million for runway rehabilitation.
  • Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport in Dickinson - $603,325 for an extension of an existing runway.

“We are working to secure strong investments in our nation’s infrastructure to support economic growth and job creation,” Hoeven said. “Today’s awards will help local airports meet the demands of our economy, now and into the future, while also ensuring the safe transportation of people and goods.”

Through his work on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Hoeven authored a provision to help existing airports, like Williston’s, that are in critical need of expansion or relocation, but unable to grow their current facilities due to physical constraints. The measure directs the FAA to ensure sufficient funding is available to relocate these airports in a timely manner. The federal government has committed $112 million for the $231 million project.
