Hoeven Announces Grant to UND EERC
BISMARCK, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, today announced that the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) has awarded $150,000 to the University of North Dakota’s (UND) Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC). The grant will be used to support research into rare earth minerals (REM) and critical minerals (CM) derived from lignite coal from the Williston Basin.
“As we continue working to enhance domestic production of critical minerals and rare earth elements, today’s grant will support EERC’s efforts to source these important materials from lignite coal, adding value to North Dakota’s abundant natural resources while helping to reduce our reliance on foreign imports,” said Hoeven.
