Hoeven Announces DOJ Funding to First Nations Women's Alliance
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), through the Office of Violence Against Women, has awarded $353,615 to the First Nations Women’s Alliance in Devils Lake. Today’s grant is available through the Tribal Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalitions program and will be used to support the development and operation of nonprofit, nongovernmental tribal domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions to serve the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, the Spirit Lake Nation, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Trenton Indian Service Area.
“This funding will support tribes’ efforts to develop and facilitate training and outreach programs to combat domestic violence and sexual assault against tribal women,” said Hoeven.
