Hoeven Announces Almost $1 Million Grant for Minot International Airport
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today announced that the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded $990,460 to Minot International Airport for airport improvements. Specifically, the funds will be used to purchase snow removal equipment, demolish the old terminal building and replace airfield visual guidance lights.
“Minot’s airport has a tremendous economic impact on the surrounding community, more than $250 million every year,” Hoeven said. “Today’s grant will help keep the airport operating during the winter and keep pilots and passengers safe by updating and replacing lights pilots use to navigate the airfield. The funds will also be used to tear down the airport’s old terminal which was replaced this year by a new terminal. These projects will help ensure that the airport can continue to support the needs of Minot and the surrounding community.”
In May, Hoeven helped dedicate a new $75.6 million terminal at Minot’s airport. As a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, Hoeven worked to secure $32 million in federal Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds for the terminal project. More than 90,000 people fly commercially into Minot, and the airport directly employs more than 1,300 people.
