Hoeven: Ag Committee Advances Perdue Nomination
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today released the following statement after the Senate Agriculture Committee voted to approve former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and advance his nomination to the full Senate for confirmation. At a hearing last week, Perdue accepted Hoeven’s invitation to visit North Dakota and see firsthand the state’s agricultural industry. Hoeven has also encouraged Perdue to build a strong coalition to pass a new farm bill with good risk management tools.
“The Senate Agriculture Committee overwhelmingly approved Governor Perdue because he will be a good advocate for farmers and ranchers across the nation,” said Hoeven. “He understands the importance of building a strong North, South and Midwest coalition to pass the next farm bill, as well as the need to maintain strong crop insurance options and update the countercyclical safety net so that it works for our producers.”
Hoeven plays a key role in shaping the nation’s agriculture policy as a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee. Hoeven also served on the Senate-House Conference Committee that crafted the final farm bill of 2014.
