Delegation Announces $5 Million in Emergency Funding to Repair Roadways

WASHINGTON – Senators John Hoeven and Kent Conrad and Congressman Rick Berg today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will provide $5 million in quick release emergency funds to help repair and restore roads and bridges damaged by flooding throughout the state. 

“Rebuilding transportation infrastructure is an important step in our state’s recovery efforts,” the delegation said in a joint statement.  “We have a lot of work ahead of us as we rebuild the Minot area and other communities damaged by floodwaters. These road funds will help get the recovery process moving forward.” 

The $5 million emergency grant is awarded to the North Dakota Department of Transportation, which will use the funds for emergency repairs to restore essential traffic and for permanent repairs to restore roadways and bridges damaged by floodwaters. 

The Federal Highway Administration administers the emergency relief program, which provides funding to reimburse states and counties for the costs of repairs to roads and bridges following natural disasters or catastrophic events. 

“Although this is only a small portion of the support we’ll need, every little bit counts,” the delegation stated. “We’re committed to ensuring our state has all the federal aid necessary to help in our flood recovery efforts.”
